Overview
InReality’s Camera Analytics solution uses a variety of InReality and third-party sensors and technology to gather important metrics on a venue or retail location, including items like traffic and demographics data. With our four software subscriptions, Audience, Awareness, Engagement and Responsive, we provide a range of data, aggregated by event, hour and day, including traffic volume and behavior, viewer profiles with numerous demographic data points, interactions/engagement with products and screens, and communicate real-time statuses and events from any captured datasource to create responsive content and experiences.
The Analytics Portal provides all the tools to gather, share and display this data from your stores or venues. In this Analytics Portal Overview document, we will briefly describe the main features and initial setup procedures.
Home
The Home page is displayed by default when accessing the inReality platform. It can be customized to your preference, with company, venue or store information. Additionally, each user can customize their home page to display specific charts, tables and metrics which are most important to them.
Setup
The Setup menu item is used to configure most aspects of your Analytics installations. This includes the configuration of devices, device mapping, datasources, endpoints, hours of operation, data mapping and data upload. In this section we’ll provide an overview of each feature and its function in your installation.
Areas of Interest
The Areas of Interest (AOI), are those specific areas in your venue, where sensors will be installed to gather the demographic, presence and traffic data. These AOI could be entrances, exits, POS registers, kiosks, end caps, or any area in your venue where you will collect data. Users can quickly create an AOI, by assigning Name, Description, Category, and Tags, to the AIO, Datasources and Endpoints, as shown below.
Create an AOI
From the Setup menu, click on ‘Areas of Interest’. At the top-right of the page, click the ‘Add New AOI’ button. Enter a Name for the AOI, and select a category from the ‘AOI Type’ menu, or type to enter a unique AOI type. Tags and Descriptions are optional. Adding Tags will help you make correct menu selections, when linking the AOIs with the Layouts and Venues.
Then click ‘Next’ to add a Datasource and enter a Datasource name. Then select a Datasource type from the menu. Click ‘Done’ to save your updates.
To add an Endpoint, click the Endpoints tab, shown above. Then choose an Endpoint from the menu as shown below, and click ‘Ok’.
The types of available Datasources and Endpoints are listed below.
Datasources
Demographics - Used when gathering demographics information like: Gender, Age, Age Group, Mood, Repeat Visitor, Customer Journey
Traffic (InReality) - Used when detecting and counting people, while using a USB or IP camera.
Traffic (Brickstream) - Used when detecting and counting people, while using a Brickstream overhead camera.
Presence (InReality) - Used when calculating the number of people and their dwell time in a zone, while using a USB or IP camera.
Presence (Brickstream) - Used when calculating the number of people and their dwell time in a zone, while using a Brickstream overhead camera.
Product Interaction (Optical Sensor) - Used when determining customer/product interaction using an optical sensor
Product Interaction (NFC) - Used when determining customer/product interaction using a NFC sensor
Touch Interaction (Digital Signage) - Used with customer touch interaction with digital signage
Door Open - Used with a wireless motion sensor, when detecting a customer has opened a door
Bed Interaction - Used with InReality’s Mattress Sensors, to detect product engagement
Gesture Recognition - Used when identifying a gesture using InReality’s skeleton / joint detection technology
Note: Also gathered are the time of day, day of the week, average and total data for these datasources.
Endpoints
Digital Signage - A digital signage screen’s content can be triggered and updated
Smart Light (Phillips HUE) - Trigger Phillips HUE Smart Lights
Smart Light (Addressable) - See our ‘Installing Addressable LED Control Board’ guide for details
Audio - Trigger audio messaging or music
Spectrio Digital Signage - An Enplug digital signage screen’s content can be updated
Layouts
Once you’ve created the Areas of Interest, as shown above, the Layout of your venue can be completed. A Layout is defined by the number of AOIs it contains, since AOIs are assigned to a Layout. When an installation covers multiple stores or Venues, a Layout can be created and reused for multiple Venues. However, a specific Layout can only be applied once to a specific Venue. If your account contains multiple Venues, and if the number of AOIs vary at each Venue, you will need to create multiple Layouts, each with the correct number of AOIs. In this section, the AOI, Devices and Device Mapping is reviewed.
Create a Layout
Select ‘Layout’ from the Setup menu. At the top-right of the page, click the ‘Add New Layout’ button. Enter a Name for the Layout. Tags and Descriptions are optional. Adding Tags will help you make menu selections, when linking the AOIs with the Layouts and Venues. Then click ‘Next’ to select an AOI.
Then click the checkbox(s) to select the desired AOI. Click ‘Done’ to save the new Layout.
Layout - Devices
Once the Layout has been created, the ‘Layout Setup’ page is displayed, as shown below. Click the ‘AOIs’ tab, to edit the previously defined AOIs. Or click the ‘Devices’ or ‘Device Mapping’ tabs as reviewed below.
On the ‘Layout Setup’ page click the ‘Devices’ tab, to add the devices for this installation. The ‘Devices’ page contains four sections: Master Controller, Sensor Controller, Sensors, Endpoints. A Master Controller is only assigned a Linux Edge unit.
You will need to create a ‘Sensor Controller’ and a ‘Sensor’ for each device. You can think of it as the Sensor Controller is the device, and the Sensor is the sensor. Note one device may have multiple sensors attached to it.
To add a (device) Sensor Controller, click ‘Add More Sensor Controllers’. In the pop-up menu enter the number of Sensor Controllers to add. Then click ‘Done’. Then click the ‘Edit’ icon, to update the name of the Sensor Controller.
Click ‘Add More Sensors’ to add a Sensor. Select the ‘Sensor Type’ from the menu and enter the Quantity and click ‘Done’.
Layout - Device Mapping
On the Device Mapping tab, the Datasources defined in the AOI section are linked or mapped to the Sensors (Sensor Names) defined in the Layouts. On the Layout Setup page, click on the ‘Device Mapping’ tab as shown previously. Note the ‘Status’ of the Sensor will show ‘Unassigned’, until the Device Mapping is completed.
Venues
Venues are the specific locations of your offices or stores. Therefore the name should be descriptive of a specific store location, or building. The Layout is assigned to a Venue.
Create a Venue
Click the ‘Add New Venue’ button in the top-right of the page. Enter the name of your Venue and click ‘Done’. From the ‘Venue Details’ tab, select the Hours and Days of Operation and Time Zone. These settings are important in regards to data accuracy. The Hours of Operation determine the period of time when data will be gathered and displayed from your devices. By default the hours are set to 9am-6pm. Note if your hours are the same each day, once you set the hours, click the ‘Copy’ button at the far right, then click the ‘Paste’ button on the additional days.
Venue Details Tab
Click the ‘Venue Details’ tab to display and edit the Venue ID, Venue Name, Venue Hours, and Time Zone. Additionally, the optional fields include Tags, Address, and Description. Adding Tags will help you make correct menu selections when linking the AOIs with the Layouts and Venues. If you are accessing API data, the ‘Venue ID’ would be used in that process.
Layout Tab
From the drop-down, select the Layout.
Devices and Device Mapping Tabs
Click the Devices and Device Mapping tab to view the configuration and check for accuracy of the setup.
